Dress Codes – What To Wear at This Years Events

Knowing what to wear for certain events can be tricky. We’ve compiled a list of dress codes for some of the years biggest events, so that you know what you can and can’t wear, making outfit planning easier.

The Henley Royal Regatta 

The Henley Royal Regatta, held annually in Henley-on-Thames, England, is known for its tradition and formal atmosphere. The dress code at the Henley Royal Regatta is quite strict, especially in certain areas of the event. Here are some general guidelines: 

  • Stewards’ Enclosure: 
    • Gentlemen: Jacket, tie, and tailored long trousers required. Cravats are not allowed. 
    • Ladies: Required to wear dresses or skirts with a hemline below the knee. Trouser suits and bare midriffs are not permitted. Hats are traditionally worn but are not obligatory. 
  • Regatta Enclosure: 
    • No formal dress code in this area. 
    • Attendees are expected to dress in smart and appropriate manner. 

It’s important to note that the dress code is strictly enforced in certain areas, especially in the Stewards’ Enclosure, where failure to comply may result in refusal of entry. The dress code is more relaxed in some areas, so attendees should be mindful of the specific enclosure they are in.

Salon Privé

Salon Privé is an annual luxury automotive and lifestyle event held in the United Kingdom. The event typically features high-end cars, fashion, and other luxury experiences. Attendees are usually expected to dress in a manner that reflects the exclusivity and sophistication of Salon Privé. Here are some general guidelines that may apply: 

  • Gentlemen: 
    • Tailored suits or blazers with dress trousers. 
    • Smart shirts with optional ties. 
    • Dress shoes. 
  • Ladies: 
    • Chic daywear such as summer dresses or trousers and jumpsuits. 
    • Beautiful hats, headpieces, and fascinators. 
    • Dressy flats or heels (note: gravel paths and lawns are not the best surfaces for stiletto heels). 

While specific dress codes may vary from year to year, luxury and smart casual attire are often encouraged to align with the upscale and stylish nature of the event. Salon Privé offers an opportunity to wear special attire and stand out alongside a lawn full of magnificently rare and exotic curated cars, luxury brands, and stunning artworks. Shorts and T-shirts are not permitted on any day at Salon Privé. 

Royal Ascot

The dress code at Royal Ascot, one of the most prestigious horse racing events in the world, is well-known for its formality and traditions. The general guideline typically includes the following: 

  • Royal Enclosure: 
    • Gentlemen: Black or grey morning dress with a waistcoat and tie. A top hat is a requirement. 
    • Ladies: Dresses and skirts should be of modest length, and hats are a must. Strapless, off-the-shoulder, halter neck, and spaghetti straps are not permitted. Trouser suits and jumpsuits are welcome, but they should be full-length and of matching material and colour. 
  • Queen Anne Enclosure: 
    • Gentlemen: A suit with a shirt and tie is required. 
    • Ladies: A hat or fascinator is recommended, and strapless or sheer-strap dresses and tops are not allowed if deemed unsuitable. Trouser suits and jumpsuits are welcome. 
  • Village and Windsor Enclosure: 
    • Ladies and Gentlemen: This enclosure is more relaxed. 
    • While racegoers are encouraged to dress smartly, there are no specific requirements. 

The dress code at Royal Ascot can vary depending on the enclosure you’re in, and it’s essential to adhere to the guidelines to gain entry. The dress code is strictly enforced, and failure to adhere to the guidelines may result in entry being denied. 

Royal Ascot Venue

Lord’s

There’s plenty of cricket action to look forward to at Lord’s this summer, If you’re taking a trip there this year, the dress code for hospitality is smart casual.

For ladies, dresses, skirts or tailored trousers are suggested, along with smart tops and blouses. Formal shoes, boots or sandals are also recommended. Casual trousers, smart jeans and tailored shorts are all acceptable for Gentlemen, with smart shirts and polo shirts and jackets all popular choices.

Please note that ripped jeans, flip flops and sports trainers are not permitted. It is important to dress in what you feel comfortable in and please bear in mind the weather.

Cheltenham Festival

If you’re taking advantage of one of our exclusive hospitality experiences at Cheltenham, please be aware that there is a dress code in operation.

Men must wear a suit or jacket with a tie. Meanwhile, ladies should wear smart attire and while hats are optional (and classy!), they’re not compulsory. Fancy dress is not allowed. Cheltenham Festival is the perfect opportunity to wear your favourite outfits and accessories in order to dress to feel your best.

Due to the event being partially outside and the unpredictability of British weather, please check weather forecasts for the day and dress accordingly. There are multiple grassy areas, please bear this in mind when choosing footwear.

Emirates Old Trafford

Watch the cricket in style in Manchester. At Old Trafford they operate a smart casual dress code, where both comfort and glamour are encouraged.

Women are often seen sporting summery dress, skirts or smart trousers. Whilst men can be seen in light summery shirts and blazers. Smart jeans and trainers are permitted. Tracksuits, shorts, offensive t-shirts and any football shirts are not permitted within the grounds and could lead to refusal of entry so please keep this in mind.

Manchester weather is known be fairly unpredictable, please ensure you check forecasts before the event and dress accordingly.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Although every year guests flaunt incredible looks, there is no official dress code for the Chelsea Flower Show. Dressing to impress is encouraged at one of Britain’s most prestigious events.

For women, skirts, dresses and trousers are all suitable choices, with floral prints and bright colours popular. As the event is mainly on grass flats or chucky heels are advised.

For men smart casual attire is recommended. Light coloured polo shirts and floral print smart shirts are commonly seen each year. Chinos and linen trousers are also a fan favourite for the bottom half.

As a lot of the event is held outdoors and on grass, please wear appropriate footwear and dress in accordance with the weather.

Silverstone

Heading to Silverstone this year and wondering what to wear? Silverstone operates a smart casual style dress code for hospitality ticket holders.

Dresses, skirts and trousers are all acceptable. Shirts are a firm favourite for men. Days at Silverstone can get hot, if this is the case smart shorts are permitted in order to stay comfortable.

Smart jeans and smart trainers are also allowed at the event. By all means dress up smarter! There are guests dressed fairly casual but also very smart, so you will not feel out of place with whatever you choose to wear. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast before attending, there are outside areas, so dress with this in mind.

Twickenham

If you’re heading to Twickenham this year, you’ll be met with a pretty relaxed dress code. Smart casual is the go to, with a few exceptions to be mindful of.

It is important that you feel comfortable on the day, smart jeans are completely welcome, but please avoid wearing any ripped jeans or scruffy trainers as they will not be permitted.

Feel free to come wearing a rugby shirt in support of your team to the event. A lot of people tend to go for this option. Please be mindful of the weather when deciding what to wear. Twickenham has an open roof and match days can get cold, so layer up.

Wembley

With England internationals, NFL, a whole host of concerts and so much more to look forward to, Wembley is the place to be entertained this year.

There is no strict dress code in place for events at Wembley. It leans towards a very relaxed smart casual with the exception of replica club shirts not being permitted for club matches. Dress how you feel comfortable. Please ensure you avoid wearing ripped jeans and sports trainers.

Due to the stadium having an open roof, please check weather forecasts before hand and dress accordingly, ensuring to layer up on colder days.

Wimbledon

There is no official dress code for Wimbledon, but think “smart casual”. The event is frequented by royals and celebrities; you will want to be looking your best whilst ensuring you are comfortable.

The looks most commonly seen for women are summer dresses, skirts, jumpsuits and tailored trousers paired with blouses. Statement sunglasses are also very popular as it can get very sunny whilst watching the event.

For men smart shirts are a top choice and are great for the smart casual dress code, light weight suits are also popular along with tailored shorts. Please bear in mind that when sat in the shade it can be a lot cooler. Check the weather forecast before hand and dress accordingly.
